KRISTEN is the proprietor of the Blue Garret. A fierce game of Bananagrams in a dive bar is her idea of a great time.
Kristen Tate has been a freelance book editor for a decade, with hundreds of books under her belt. She has a PhD in English from Columbia University, with a focus on novels and publishing history. She has been thinking about how novels work and how readers experience them for many years and brings this rich experience to her editing.
An internship at Chronicle Books, intensive developmental editing courses through the Editorial Freelancers Association, and a Professional Editing Certificate from University of California at Berkeley ensure that the advice you receive is accurate, reliable, and up-to-date.
Kristen serves on the board of directors of The Editorial Freelancers Association and Writeability. She appears frequently as a speaker at writing conferences and on writing-related podcasts.
Contact
Drop me a line at hello@thebluegarret.com. Messages are usually answered within twenty-four hours on weekdays, unless I’m camping somewhere off the grid, in which case you may have to wait for up to three days for a response. Instead of grinding your teeth in despair while you wait, you should contemplate this map of a road trip across the US which includes all forty-seven national parks.
Want to talk to me about a book editing project? The best way to get started is to fill out the short info form using the “Get Started” button below.
Social Media
I hang out most often at Bluesky, but you can find occasional posts about projects and cat photos on Instagram and Facebook.
